THE ADVENTURE
The plan is for Alexander to bicycle unsupported from Alexandra (South Africa) to Alexandria (Egypt) and fulfill my dream of the past 15 years to cross Africa.
At almost 12,000km, it is quite far and 117 times the longest ride I have done to date. There are also one or two hills: 69km of elevation is 7.8 times the height of Everest or 15,789 double decker buses (always such a useful metric...). Traveling by bicycle is just the right pace of life. You cover enough ground (target is 80-100km per day) and still get to really engage with your surroundings. |
THE EDVENTURE
I have a real love for education and this adventure is really an 'edventure'.
I plan to visit as many innovative education organisations as possible throughout the journey to showcase what they are doing and how they are transforming education in Africa. Take a look at Edventure for updates on the first three upcoming visits!

If you have suggestions or contacts for innovative and effective organisations in Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan or Egypt which address learning from early years to adults, particularly using technology, I would love to hear from you (contacts below).
Throughout my journey, I will be raising awareness and money for the African Leadership Academy or ALA (www.africanleadershipacademy.org/).
I have chosen ALA as this is one mighty impressive school which identifies high potential students from all over Africa and brings them together to create the future leaders of this continent. Each student is fully supported through an intensive program of intellectual growth and hands on leadership development and connected with a powerful network to help guide their transformative impact in Africa.
Almost all ALA students require some form of financial aid to attend the Academy. A full-year sponsorship of US $30,000 covers all expenses including tuition, visa costs, room & board, round-trip travel, medical insurance and university guidance.
So far they have 983 young leaders in the ALA network representing 46 countries in Africa and they are catalyzing change all over Africa.
If you would like to support, please take a look at the Donate page for more information or click here to invest in a leader!
